Solomon Zewdu Altaye

I have been working as member livestock research team of Pawe research center, Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research starting from February 2005 to June 2014. I was working on Apiculture, forage and pasture crops research and involved in the development and release of 3 improved forage grasses, and one forage legume varieties, and also involved in generating other information on Apiculture, forage and pasture crops production technologies to small scale farmers in North West part of Ethiopia.

Starting from June 2014 to September 2014 I have been appointed as center director for the newly opened Chiro National Sorghum Research and Training Center under Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research. During this time I directed and managed the establishment process of the research center, and develop and maintain partnership for collaborative research activities with different stakeholders including international and local organizations. I have also involved in development of strategic and tactical plans and budgets for the execution of government- and donor-funded projects for agricultural technology generation, demonstration, training, pre-scaling up, and sustainable value chain development for sorghum for drought affected areas of Western Harerghe, Ethiopia.

Research Interests

·        Honeybee proteomics

·        Nutritional Ecology of honeybees

During my MSc study, I investigated whether and how caged honeybees maintain their nutritional requirements and the study provided an insight in to the complex system as similar responses might be seen in nurse bees in the colony as seen from behavior of these individual adult bees.
